MODERASI BERAGAMA DALAM KEHIDUPAN MASYARAKAT MULTIETNIS DI SUMATERA

Indonesia is known as a country with a high level of diversity, both in terms of ethnicity, religion, and culture. This condition demands an attitude of religious moderation to maintain social harmony. This study aims to describe how religious moderation is practiced in multi-ethnic communities in several regions of Sumatra, namely Riau, Aceh Tamiang, Bengkulu, and North Sumatra. The study used a qualitative approach with indirect interviews via WhatsApp with four informants. The results show that religious moderation is reflected in attitudes of tolerance, openness, mutual respect, and social cooperation among residents regardless of ethnic and religious differences. Religious values, customs, and the culture of mutual cooperation are the main factors supporting the creation of harmony amidst diversity.
